Learning Outcomes

Module 1

This module extends from Week 1 into Week 2.

At the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • Summarize instructor’s background, course content topics, and course expectations
  • Describe the overall course design
  • Access course materials
  • Created an individual CI Keys account
  • Describe two models of case management
  • Identify the value of evidence based practice in nursing
  • Summarize vulnerable populations in California related to healthcare issues or access to care

Module 2

This module begins Week 2 through Week 3 covering Hemodynamics and Cardiovascular issues and topics.

At the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe acute and chronic cardiac conditions including pathophysiology, presenting signs and symptoms, etiology and contributing factors, sequelae and progression, and goals of nursing management
  • Compare and contrast acute versus chronic disease illness related to hemodynamic stability and cardiovascular function
  • Identify key nursing management strategies for patients with cardiovascular dysfunction
  • Categorize appropriate nursing care planning (assessment, diagnosis, goals, interventions, evaluation) related to the patient with cardiovascular dysfunction

Meal Check

Heart Healthy Diet

Sometime this week, pick a day to evaluate what you eat. Specifically look at the sodium intake and fat intake you have for one day. Image you were restricted of salt and fat intake – could you easily adjust ? Cardiac patients are required to be on a ‘Heart Healthy’ diet, which usually consists of low salt and low fat. Depending on the other comorbidities the patient has, additional restrictions may apply. Check out this site for more information.

Homework

This week you need to go to ATI and start tackling some practice tests. Check out the codes I have listed for you to access the practices tests in CI Learn/Blackboard. Do the practice test for Cardiovascular. May I suggest you also consider retaking a practice test Nutrition? Homework this week only requires you to take the Cardiovascular practice test.
